So, how did we get here?
Chris and I met in Houston in 1998 the old fashioned way: at a keg party. We had a mutual friend, and a love of truck stop BBQ, so we soon began dating. We married in 2000, went through many career changes, had a daughter named Lucinda, at one point owned a ranch in the Hill Country (complete with our own mismatched menagerie of rescue animals) and finally found our way to Austin, Chris' hometown.
You know how you sometimes have a weird inkling that you might be good at something? (This happens to me a lot. "I think I'd be really good at bass guitar!" "I just know that I can write sonnets!" "I think I'm a pastry chef at heart!") Well, I had an inkling that I'd be a great wedding officiant. I know this sounds odd, as most people don't ever think about wedding officiants unless they are getting married. But, I happen to be a huge romantic at heart, and also a people person, and I just had a feeling. So, in 2013 I started "Let's Do It" Vows, my officiating business, and things took off immediately. I performed 110 weddings my first year!
2 years later, I'm still working all of the time, writing custom ceremonies for couples and enjoying being a part of their big day. But, along the way, I developed an interest in something outside of my role at weddings: the venue. My job allows me to drive all over Central Texas to see the best - and, unfortunately, worst - venues around. I found I have definite opinions about venues! This, actually, doesn't come as a surprise. With my background as an artist and designer (check out www.sarahgreenereed.com), I've had a million different creative jobs, often in the areas of prop styling, interior design, graphic design and color consultation.
Last Spring, I realized that I wanted to start a venue. Fortunately, Chris, my husband, is on the same exact page as I am regarding renovation projects and business gambles. There's a reason my officiating services are called "Let's Do It"! We love a project. We began checking out properties online, with the occasional site visit, waiting patiently for our dream property to come up. And, then, one day I found this early 20th Century church in Georgetown online and couldn't believe my luck! I loved the building AND the location. At the time, we only knew a little bit about Georgetown, and, now, we know a lot more about it. We've fallen in love with the community! Georgetown is just cool.
So, after a summer of backing and forthing to get our zoning squared away, we were delighted to close on our property, the soon-to-be Pearl Snap Hall, in early September. Many plans are in the works. We've hired Rose Bartush, a fab architect (this will be another blog post) to get the space *just* right. We are also working with Norma Jeanne Maloney, of Red Rider Studios, to do some cool custom signage. And, I've been having a blast collecting old windows, gates, birdcages, and props from various sources around Texas. I, very fortuitously, hooked up with Sherrie Klein from Revive Vintage Rentals, just as she was selling off some items she had personally selected for her daughter's wedding. Score!
